Optimal power vs maximum performance nvidia
WebOct 29, 2016 · Optimal will generally pick one voltage step to stay on during load unless something drastic happens, while adaptive will constantly move between voltage steps as load changes. Clock dips on Optimal can still happen if the GPU stops getting commands either due to CPU hiccups or data latency, which would cause the voltage step to change. WebYou use "Prefer maximum performance" for a sustained clock, whereas "Adaptive" will ramp up as needed then clock back down. Personally I use adaptive and have special settings for games via NVCP to "Prefer max performance" when using certain games. Card won't clock down and will be a little warmer when idle if say you had adaptive on.
